Today I got this new game. That game, as you may have guessed, is Doraemon. It’s a pirate original that was published by Fuzhou Waixing Computer Science & Technology Co. Ltd.

As for the developer, that would be Hummer Team. Sort of.

As you may know, Hummer Team developed Somari, which was a port of Sonic the Hedgehog to the NES that replaced Sonic with Mario.

Well, Waixing Co. made a hack of Somari called Doraemon that replaces Mario with Doraemon. It also replaces all of the levels, and the majority of the graphics, and the music.

Well, let’s start it up and play!

Well, it appears they replaced the “Somari Team Presents” screen with a big Waixing Co. screen. Anyway, here’s the title screen:

Hm! I can’t read Chinese, so all I can make out of this is “Stage!! OK good good”.

…I don’t really know anything about Doraemon. Maybe somebody who actually watches it can tell me if this has anything to do with something in the TV show or not. Moving on.

If you press start, you get this screen.

In the original Somari, this screen told you which level you were on. I can’t read Chinese, so I dunno what it says.

Anyway, after that screen, you go to the first level.

Yup. Very different from Somari.

…at least in terms of level design. As far as gameplay, they are the same. Doraemon has harder levels though.

That’s mostly it as far as the game goes. It’s a bootleg that’s similar to sonic but with different levels.

But there’s something else I want to point out.

This game steals graphics from several official games, including Little SamsonJackie Chan’s Action Kung FuWacky Races, and Chip & Dale 2.

But more importantly, it steals graphics from Aladdin, another bootleg game by Hummer Team.

Here’s one example. You see these snakes in Doraemon?

Well, compare that to these snakes in Aladdin:

In case you can’t tell, they are identical, albeit being different colors.

…That’s it for now. I’ll write more later. I have a lot more games I’m getting that I will hopefully be able to write about here soon.

  1. The ground onto Doraemon walks in the fifth picture is exactly the same as it was in Jackie Chan’s Action Kung-Fu! 🙂
