Pocket Games 5-in-1

Here’s a famicom multicart I got called Pocket Games 5-in-1. Here’s a picture:

It’s got a nice shiny hologram-ish label and—wait a second, what are those games it has on there?? That’s DuckTales, DuckTales 2, The Flintstones, The Flintstones 2, and Little Samson. What??

Just in case you don’t know, DuckTales 2 costs about $200 for just the cartridge. The Flintstones 2 costs $700 for just the cartridge. And Little Samson costs up to $900 for just the cartridge. Plus the about $20 each for DuckTales 1 and The Flintstones 1. That would be $1840 to go out and buy all these games individually. Being a pirate game, you can get this cartridge for about $20 if you can find it.

Before putting it into the system and turning it on, here’s a couple of notes I’d like to make. First off, Pocket Games 5-in-1 is a little bit shorter than your usual Famicom game.

Maybe that’s why they called it “Pocket Games.” I dunno. Anyway, the other thing I wanted to say is it’s got some text on the back of the cartridge that has a few errors in it:

In case you can’t read that, it says:

“•Avoid exposing cartr dge to extreme temperature

•Be careful not to immerse cartridge in water.

•For protection, when cartridge is noe in use, place cartridge inside protective plastic case.”

I guess this game originally came with a plastic case, but if it did, I don’t have it. Anyway, with that minor stuff out of the way, let’s put the game in a Famicom and see what it is:

It has a blue-colored background and pictures on it, which is more than can be said for a lot of multicarts that just have a black background and a list of games. Anyway, at the top of the screen, we have what looks like the words “pocket games” in fancy letters at the top of the screen. Whoever makes these things needs to learn that most TVs can’t display everything at the sides of the screen. But they didn’t learn it, and only the bottom of the “pocket games” text is visible. Then we’ve got our list of games, which is the same as the list of games on the cover. On the bottom left we’ve got Mega Man. I don’t know what he‘s doing here, since he’s not in any of the listed games. Further towards the bottom right there’s the words “WS-0038.” I guess that’s a model number or something like that. And then more on the bottom right there’s a cloud. That’s it for the game select screen, let’s start the first game.

It works fine. Same with all the other games:

Everything seems to be in order. Well, that’s it for today I guess. I’ll write more later.
